Overview
PhysiGuardians is an educational VR game designed to make physics learning immersive and engaging. Players are transported to a vibrant virtual village where they must protect a windmill—the village’s core power source—from attacking monsters by mastering physics principles through interactive experiments.
Educational Approach
The game’s design is founded on two key educational theories:
- Situated Learning: Creates an immersive environment where learning occurs through practical activities rather than abstract teaching
- Inquiry-based Learning: Encourages active knowledge acquisition through exploration and critical thinking
Key Experiments
Players progress through three distinct physics experiments:
- Projectile Motion: Players release balls from various heights on a slope, analyzing velocity and displacement data
- Convex Lens Image Formation: Players manipulate a candle and lens on a sliding track to observe imaging properties
- Ice Melting Point: Players investigate how salt concentration affects the melting point of ice
Game Mechanics
- Combat system with unique abilities and ammunition gained through experiment completion
- NPC sage character who guides players throughout their journey
- Left-hand UI panel displaying tasks and tracking player resources
- Comprehensive quest flow with progressive difficulty
Technical Implementation
- Developed using Unity for the Oculus Quest Pro
- AI behavior trees for enemy and NPC interactions
- Custom-built physics simulation systems for accurate educational content
- Interactive VR controls optimized for physics experimentation
Visual Style
The game features a vibrant cartoon rendering style that blends fantasy and medieval themes, creating an engaging and approachable learning environment.
